Hearts-a-bustin' grows in shade to partial shade and prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Once established, it can tolerate drought. The small greenish-yellow flowers produce a red fruit capsule that splits when ripe that attracts birds. The average height of a mature hearts-a-bustin' plant is between 2 and 6 feet.
