Downy sunflower

Downy sunflower is a herbaceous perennial that grows 2 to 4 feet tall. The preference is full sun and mesic to dry conditions. Poor soil is preferred, containing sand, clay, or rocky material. The downy sunflower can be distinguished from other sunflowers by the fine, soft hairs that heavily cover the leaves and stems.
